Some might say the events sector is more diverse than any other, this could be true, however, you really need to look more carefully.
Women in the events Industry are not getting past middle management, they’re not in the boardroom or on boards.
The people of colour, on the other hand, are nowhere near middle management. They are not the negotiators, deal makers, primary hosts, venue owners, on Boards or in senior management but serving the drinks, door security or ensuring the hospitality areas are clean and tidy. That’s where some of the elevated diversity stats come from when submitted.
The decision makers have to be diverse, it doesn’t just happen, a conversation about race is difficult, at times uncomfortable; but the reality is, if we don’t talk about it, we’ll never make the progress that’s necessary, there is a global shift be brave and have let’s have that courageous conversation.

PANEL MEMBER BIO:
Hailing from the Midwest of the USA, Aaron has been in the Northwest of England for 17 years. From an early age, he was an advocate of equality and diversity, respectful to women and reaching out to people of various ethnic backgrounds. Throughout his life, Aaron has worked in various countries helping those in dire situations by giving each one purpose and hope.
As Conferencing Manager at The Lighthouse Venue, Manchester, Aaron took the reigns of the venue when it was struggling to be viable and within one year, the profits grew by 53%. He built the Hospitality and Conferencing team which consists mainly of People of Colour. He also mentored a Woman of Colour to set up and establish her dream to run a venue decorating business plus encouraged a group of formerly displaced Women of Colour to have the confidence to set up a catering business. He believes networking to help others become a success will bring success back to him.
Via Events and workshops, Horizon Health Network exists to bring holistic health to people – more than just physical health: mental, emotional, spiritual, social, financial.
Aaron is a life coach, motivational speaker, pastor, creative arts director, personal trainer, writer, husband, and father. He is also a vocalist, singing in major music festivals held at Manchester Arena with the Lighthouse Choir which he directed.
